Farmlab reached out to Captovate to help redesign the web interface of their software application that manages environmental data for farmers and consultants alike.

As Farmlab has grown and diversified over the last few years, new features have been progressively added to the web interface without a high level consideration for the overall user experience.

Our challenge was to understand the complexities of tasks performed within the web interface and reimagine the user experience to become more simplified and intuitive, whilst also providing access to the many complex tasks performed within the interface. 

Solution

We commenced the project by conducting workshops with the team at Farmlab.  These workshops helped us understand the key user requirements and key features within the web interface. 

This process allowed us to consolidate the information architecture of the app before moving into the wireframing stage. Through wireframing,  our focus was on the layout of components to ensure a simplified user experience,  whilst also providing access to the many complex tasks performed within the interface. 

We achieved this by minimising the amount of data and actions visible by default and introducing a number of devices that would enable more advanced options or information.

Through the visual design process, we applied the Farmlab brand and ensured that the wireframes translated to a clean and visually appealing web interface. In addition to key screen designs, we also created a library of reusable components that Farmlab's web developers could utilise for further interface development.
